RS1, CBW RACING EXTENDS GT WORLD CHALLENGE POINTS LEAD WITH 3RD WIN OF THE SEASON FOR FILGUEIRAS & MCALEER

Austin, TX - Championship battles are coming into focus in Fanatec GT World Challenge America powered by AWS entering this weekend’s fifth and sixth rounds of the season at Circuit of The Americas.

The 20-turn, 3.425-mile circuit near Austin featured an unchanged grid from last month’s event at NOLA Motorsports Park.

Series newcomers RS1 continued to lead the Pro class points standings with Eric Filgueiras and Steven McAleer, despite the team having been handed a post-race penalty from Race 2 at NOLA for incident responsibility.

Filgueiras and McAleer came into the weekend with a nine-point advantage over the BimmerWorld pairing of Chandler Hull and Bill Auberlen, who picked up their first class victory of the season in the second 90-minute race of the weekend in New Orleans.

The Fanatec GT World Challenge America powered by AWS had tepid temperatures and hot tempers as it ran the first of two 90-minute races at Circuit Of The Americas. The premier GT racing series in North America had 17 entries on the grid for its three classes, with six of the world's best-known and most beloved manufacturer brands.

The winning No. 28 RS1 CBW Racing Porsche 911 GT3 R started the race from the pole position after penalties were assessed post-qualifying to the No. 21 Conquest Racing Ferrari 296 GT3 and the No. 94 BimmerWorld BMW M4 GT3. The race wasn’t a smooth sail but more a story of survival as multiple incidents claimed the races of others.

The No. 93 Racers Edge Acura NSX GT3 of Ashton Harrison and Mario Farnbacher earned a second-place finish recovering from a drive-through penalty assessed after a Lap 1 incident. Third place went to the No. 53 MDK Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 R. The duo of Seth Lucas and Trenton Estep proved they weren’t afraid to put their elbows out as they equally defended position during their stints on track.

Consistency and strategy put the No. 93 Racers Edge Motorsports Acura NSX GT3 of Ashton Harrison and Mario Farnbacher on top advancing six positions throughout the weekend's second race. After a bout of struggles and bad luck the team can breathe a sigh of relief and enjoy capping COTA off with champagne. Second place went to the No. 28 RS1 Porsche 911 GT3 R of Eric Filgueiras and Steven McAleer.

Filgueiras reeled in Harrison over the course of the race but ran out of time for a true battle. After winning Race One the RS1 team is walking away with a nice buffer in the points championship. Third place was the ever-steady duo Seth Lucas and Trenton Estep in the No. 53 MDK Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 R. MDK Motorsports is still in the hunt for a PRO Class win but their clean weekends are mounting into multiple podium results.

Race Two concludes the weekend at Circuit Of The Americas but fans can relive the action on by following the GT World page on YouTube. The Fanatec GT World Challenge America powered by AWS series goes east for rounds seven and eight. VIRginia International Raceway host the double-header weekend for all of the SRO Motorsports America series June 16-18.
